133RD MAIFEST KICK-OFF PICNIC WEDNESDAY
Activities for the 133rd Brenham Maifest get underway tonight (Wednesday) with the Friends of Maifest Kick-off Picnic.
The picnic is set for 6 p.m. at the Fireman’s Park pavilion, honoring the sponsors and volunteers for the annual festival.
Activities this evening will include music, a children’s Maipole dance and a ribbon cutting to mark the opening of Maifest.
KWHI will have a live broadcast from the picnic starting at 5:45 p.m. on AM 1280, FM 101.7 and kwhi.com.
Tomorrow (Thursday) is the opening of the carnival at Fireman’s Park, running through Saturday.
Tickets for the coronation ceremonies are available at www.brenhammaifest.com. The Senior Coronation will be held on Friday at 7 p.m., while the Junior Coronation will take place on Saturday beginning at 6:30 p.m. A clear bag policy will be in effect for attendees.
The Junior Royalty of Virginia Kate Priesmeyer and Luke Robert Hyatt will reign over the court of “The Enchanted Tree House.” The Senior Queen and King, Lauren Ruth Hook and Ashton Kiel Behrens, will reign over the court of “Musical Memories.”
Saturday’s Maifest parade through downtown Brenham will start at 10:30 a.m. KWHI will broadcast the parade live beginning at 10 a.m. and will also livestream it on Facebook, sponsored by Mr. Gatti’s. After the parade, the festival grounds will open for music, beer tasting, games and dance performances.
Live entertainment for the weekend will feature the Brown Sugar Band on Friday and Das Ist Lustig, Isaak Klaus and the Lederhosen Junkies, and Brandon Rhyder on Saturday.
Admission to the festival grounds is free.
