Stedman had been serving in the position since June 2022.  He had re-located his family from Grayson, Georgia in order to take the position.

According to the Giddings Times, Mayor Pro-Tem Alan Casey said that in Stedman’s 11 months on the job, he had not completed a single project.

Normally, personnel matters are discussed in executive session, however, Stedman sent an e-mail to council members saying that he wanted everything in open session, and with the public present.

Stedman presented the council with a list of accomplishments.  He also mentioned a planned retreat between council members and EDC board members that got cancelled.

In addition to that, several Giddings business owners attend the meeting to speak on Stedman’s behalf.

Council members Jacob Janda, Frank Castro, and Mark Muniz said that they had all received complaints about Stedman from their respective constituents.

The council was told by the city attorney that while Stedman was hired by the EDC board, he receives a check and benefits from the city, which made him a city employee.

On a side note, EDC Board Chairman John Simmang announced that he was resigning.  Simmang said that his decision had nothing to do with what was going on with Stedman.

He said the job was taking a toll on his health and family welfare, and that he needed to step down.

  1. Well, the first mistake made was hiring someone from out of state. Are there not any people in Texas qualified for this job?? Whoever hired him should also be looked at very closely. Voters beware.
