More than 50 streets in Navasota are covered between the city’s yearly street maintenance project and the 2020 bonded capital improvement project (CIP) for street and utility rehabilitation.
The yearly street maintenance includes around 30 streets, totaling almost 4 miles. The roads will receive a new top surface through chip sealing performed by contractor Knife River. The process will extend the life of the road and provide a new, smoother surface for vehicles to drive on.
Work will start in early June and is targeted for completion before Halloween.
The bonded CIP for street and utility rehabilitation will begin once school dismisses during the last week of May. The project, to be performed by Kieschnick General Contractors, involves more extensive street repairs and will rebuild parts of 20 streets in the city, with many including water, sewer and storm drain improvements.
The CIP encompasses 5 miles of street rehabilitation, 3 miles of new sewer lines and 3 miles of new water lines. The city intends to complete the work by August 2024, before the school year begins.
Residents will see contractors generally working between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. during the week, but some weekend work may be necessary. The city plans to update the public as the two projects progress.
