Brenham and Burton ISD campuses begin a new school year today.  The opening enrollment for Brenham ISD is projected at 4,774 students, while Burton ISD’s enrollment stands at approximately 586 students.

Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin believes campus leadership has done a great job of creating a positive environment for students.

Burton ISD Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy encourages families to be positive, come with refreshed and renewed expectations for the school district, and be ready to learn and see new things.

Coming into the next year of classes, school safety and security have been a priority for Brenham and Burton ISDs, as they spent the summer break hardening facilities in alignment with new state guidelines.  Some of the changes include an increase in safety officers, new door lock systems and fencing, and improved communication and notification tools for families and staff.

Both school districts are waiting to see what state legislators will do in terms of providing teachers and staff with additional compensation, although Burton ISD trustees approved pay raises for teachers and staff on Monday.  Lawmakers could meet for another special session this fall to address the matter.
