MAN CONVICTED IN ARMED ROBBERY OF GIDDINGS PHONE STORE SENTENCED TO 23 YEARS IN PRISON
An Indiana man who was arrested in Brenham following an armed robbery at a phone store in Giddings two years ago will spend the next 23 years in prison.

Aaron Stephon Akins of Indianapolis was sentenced last month by Judge Reva Towslee Corbett in Lee County District Court for Aggravated Robbery occurring in January 2021 at the Cricket Wireless store in the Giddings Plaza.
Giddings police were told by an employee that Akins and a second person confronted her in the back of the store while displaying a handgun. The employee said the two suspects took cell phones and an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The suspects’ vehicle was spotted traveling eastbound on Highway 290, and Lee County authorities provided information to surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Brenham police located the vehicle and stopped it at the Westwood Chevron gas station on Highway 290. Inside the vehicle were the stolen money and property, along with other evidence.
Giddings officers came to Brenham and took the two suspects, Akins and Ayona Krystyne Tunstill, into custody for Aggravated Robbery. Both Akins and Tunstill have been linked to other robberies at cell phone stores around the state.
