WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO FURTHER DISCUSS SOLID WASTE ORDINANCE

Washington County Commissioners will potentially take action regarding a solid waste ordinance at their meeting on Tuesday.

At their last meeting, the court learned about the steps involved with creating an ordinance, which is designed to give the county more authority and leeway should a landfill company want to operate in the county.

The ordinance would select one lone site in the county that would be designated as “not prohibited” for a landfill and prevent a landfill from going anywhere else.  It would also restrict a landfill company from beginning operations without the county having a say.

Any action on Tuesday will include preparation of the ordinance, moving forward with a takings impact assessment and issuing a notice of a hearing for the proposed ordinance.

In other business, the court will vote on a software license agreement between Washington County EMS and FirstWatch Solutions, Inc., a provider of data monitoring and biosurveillance software for public health and public safety organizations and agencies.  There will also be a quarterly report provided by the Engineering and Development Services department.

Also in session, commissioners will consider:

  • A right-of-way permit application for the 2023 Washington County Fair trail ride.
  • Approval of the 2024 sheriff’s and constable’s fees for Washington County.
  • Notice of the appointment of election judges for the November 7th constitutional amendment election, as well as possible approval of an order of replacement appointments for judges and alternates.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
