SALES TAX REBATES IN SEPT. DOWN FOR WASHINGTON CO. & BRENHAM, UP FOR BURTON

  

September was a down month for Washington County and Brenham in sales and tax distributions, but Burton saw sizable growth.

Washington County’s rebate of $355,165 this month was down 3.41 percent from the $367,708 it received in September 2022.  Its year-to-date collections total $3,574,792, up 11.69 percent from this point a year ago, when the county had received $3,200,621.

The City of Brenham brought in $770,784 in September, 2.31 percent below the $789,084 it received last September.  Through 2023 so far, the city’s receipts are up 4.87 percent from where they were last year, at $7,152,765 in comparison to $6,820,232.

Burton’s September rebate was $10,750, up 39.17 percent from last September’s amount of $7,724.  To date, the city has received $80,941, a 9.39 percent increase from the $73,990 it had collected through this time last year.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported a state payout of $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations this month, up 3.4 percent from September 2022 and up 6.4 percent for the year so far.
