AUSTIN CO. GRAND JURY FINDS ‘NO CRIMINAL ACT’ IN DEATH OF JAIL INMATE
An Austin County Grand Jury has found that there was no criminal wrongdoing in the death of an inmate at the Austin County Jail.
The grand jury met on September 27th to review the death of 29-year-old Quincy Williams at the jail on March 11th.
According to a press release from Austin County District Attorney Travis Koehn, the grand jury concluded that “no criminal act” occurred to cause Williams’ death.
Per an autopsy performed by the Fort Bend Medical Examiner, Williams died of natural causes. The medical examiner found that the cause of death was “infarcts due to blood clots that settled in Williams’ right lung.”
The autopsy report also showed there was no evidence that injury or drug use were a factor.
Williams was a trustee at the jail and was housed alone in a separate cell. The release stated that jail surveillance video documentation showed Williams passed away in his sleep.
Texas Ranger Christopher Rainwater led the investigation and interviewed jailers, medical staff and autopsy doctors. He also documented the scene and viewed the autopsy. Rainwater, according to the release, found no evidence of assault or other injuries.
The Austin County District Attorney’s Office said it will take no further action in this matter.
