NAVASOTA POLICE MAKE ARREST AFTER PURSUIT STRIKES HOME

A Navasota man faces several charges after a police chase on Saturday that struck a residence.

Around 5:15 p.m., Navasota police attempted to stop a vehicle in the 500 block of West Dickson Street, but the vehicle fled from officers.  They gave chase eastbound on Blackshear Street before the fleeing vehicle lost control and hit a home in the 700 block of Brosig Avenue.

The driver, 41-year-old Wilbert Sargent Jr., fled on foot but was detained after a short pursuit.

According to police, officers seized approximately .25 pounds of marijuana, over 23 grams of MDMA and a stolen firearm in the vehicle.

Sargent was also found to have outstanding warrants of the State of Texas Pardon and Parole office for Burglary of a Habitation, Brazos County for theft, and the Navasota Police Department for traffic offenses.

Due to injuries, Sargent was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  He was subsequently charged with Evading in a Motor Vehicle, Evading on Foot with Prior Conviction, Possession of Marijuana 2-4 oz., Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 2 4-400 grams), and Duty on Striking Structure.

Police say charges are pending for a passenger in the vehicle.
