BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS WATER LINE IMPROVEMENTS, BUZZARDS

  

The Burton City Council will consider a water line improvements project when it meets on Tuesday. 

The council will potentially accept a contract awarding the project to Hoffman Dozer Services of La Grange in the amount of $229,011.  The project is being funded by the 2021-22 Texas Department of Agriculture’s Community Development Block Grant program.

City Secretary Angela Harrington said water lines will be replaced on South Railroad Street and South Main Street.  If funds allow, the water line on the South Brazos Street extension will be extended.

Also on Tuesday, councilmembers will look at hiring a wildlife biologist of Texas Wildlife Services to address complaints and concerns from residents regarding the buzzard population.  According to Harrington, the buzzards appear to have made the water tower their home, but there are other locations in town that are a growing concern.

In other business, the council will consider:

• A resolution providing for votes allocated for the election of the board of directors for the Washington County Appraisal District.
• The 2024 City of Burton paid holiday schedule.
• Moving the remaining balance of $1,766 in the water repair money market account into the utility fund and closing the water repair account.

The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
