NAVASOTA PD LAUNCHES ‘9:00 EVERY NIGHT’ SAFETY CHECK CAMPAIGN

The Navasota Police Department is starting a new initiative for local residents to protect themselves and their belongings.

Navasota police say one of their largest crime statistics revolves around theft and burglary, which often occur when citizens leave their garage doors open, vehicles unlocked or exterior buildings unsecured.

The department encourages the public to implement a “9:00 Every Night” safety check routine, setting a phone alert at 9 p.m. each night to perform four safety steps:

  1. CLOSE IT – Make sure your garage and all other exterior doors are closed.
  2. LOCK IT – Lock your doors, windows, and vehicles.
  3. LIGHT IT – Turn on your front porch and other exterior lights.
  4. HIDE IT – Hide your valuables and cover your windows.

Police say performing this nightly routine will help keep residents and their property safe and secure.

As a reminder, the department says to stow away any valuables that are in the vehicle, like electronics, bags or packages, and to keep them out of sight or bring them inside.  It also says to never leave keys inside of the vehicle, even if just for a moment, and to always have them on hand.

  1. It is unfortunate that in a small town it is necessary to take these steps to protect their property.
Big city residents have had to lock up everything for decades. It is not hard to do the four safety steps
recommended by the police. I hope people will follow their advice.
