CUBETTES SPLIT GAMES ON THE FINAL DAY OF TOURNAMENT

The Brenham Cubette Softball Team split their games on the final day of the annual Brenham Tournament. The Cubettes run-ruled Klein Forest in the first game of the day 11-1, however, they would fall to Conroe in the second game 9-2.

Avery Maurer led off the bottom of the first inning with a single. Two batters later, Sarah Mabie reaches on an error by the Eagles leftfielder that also allowed Maurer to come all the way around and score the first run of the game. Annie Beckendorf walked, and then took second on a defensive indifference. Kaylie Rodriguez followed with a two-run single that scored both Mabie and Beckendorf to make it 3-0 Cubettes. Then, McKenzie Tiemann slugged an RBI triple that scored Rodriguez to increase the Brenham lead to 4-0.

Nevaeh Holmes started the second inning by getting hit with a pitch. She later came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Halle Scheel, which gave the Cubettes a 5-0 lead.

Klein Forest scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning on a passed ball, but Brenham still lead 5-1.

The Cubettes would then put the game away in the bottom of the fifth with a six-run inning. Kaylyn Rodriguez opened the inning with a solo homer. Kinley Antkowiak reached on a bunt single, and then road home on a two-run homer by Annie Beckendorf to make it 8-1 Brenham.

Jacee Hegar drew a walk, took second on a passed ball, took third on another passed ball, and then scored on an error by the third baseman. Kylie Baker followed her with a solo homer to left field.

Holmes would then slug a triple, and later score on another wild pitch to enforce the mercy rule 11-1.

Baker got the win after pitching all five innings, and striking out ten.

The Lady Tigers got it started with two runs in the top of the first inning.

The Cubettes finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Halle Scheel reached on an infield hit, and promptly stole second base. Sarah Mabie singled home Scheel to cut the lead to 2-1.

Conroe got the run back with one of their own in the top of the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth that made it 6-1.

Brenham scored in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by McKenzie Tiemann that scored Kinley Antkowiak that made it 6-2 Eagles.

However, Conroe put the game away with three runs in the top of the 7th to win it.

The Cubettes finished the Brenham Tournament with a 4-2 record.

Next Up: The Cubettes return to District 21-5A play on Tuesday night when they host A&M Consolidated at 6:30pm at Alumni Field.
