BLUEBONNET ELECTRIC WARNING RESIDENTS OF PHONE SCAM

With a recent rise in phone scams, Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is warning customers to be on the lookout.

Residents have reported receiving recent calls from person or persons unknown claiming to be from Bluebonnet Electric.

The caller tells the customer that they are behind on their payments and demands immediate payment over the phone, or they will shut their power off.

According to Bluebonnet, they will never call customers to demand immediate payment over the phone.

If a customer is behind, the Cooperative will make at least two attempts to contact them before shutting the power off. They send a courtesy letter in the mail on the first attempt, and make a courtesy phone call on the second attempt.

If you have not received a letter or a courtesy call, Bluebonnet Electric says do not give these people any money, or personal information over the phone.

General Manager Matt Bentke said the easiest way to prevent this from happening is to know how to check your account status.

Customers can go to their website, www.bluebonnet.coop, use the My Bluebonnet phone app, or call 1-800-842-7708.

Should anyone get one of these fraudulent calls, please report it to your local law enforcement agency and to Bluebonnet Member Services.
