SOMERVILLE TO BEGIN HOSTING MONTHLY FARMERS MARKETS

A new farmers market is popping up in Somerville.

This Sunday will mark the first edition of the market, taking place from 8 a.m. to noon at 125 12th Street, in the grassy area and parking lot.  The market is planned for every first Sunday of the month.

Some of the goods available will include baked items, meat, eggs, produce, honey and flowers.

Somerville residents Candice Lister and Sarah Underwood are organizing the market.  Lister told the Burleson County Tribune that they wanted to have access to fresh, homegrown food without having to travel up to 45 minutes out of town.

Lister said that the decision to hold the market on Sundays was to respect the local businesses that operate on Saturdays.  She also said the possibility exists to move locations if another option becomes available.

Underwood told the Tribune that there are about 15 vendors registered for this weekend’s market.

Vendors must bring their own setups, including tables and tents, and pay a one-time fee of $10 to help with the marketing and promotion of the event.
