The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department spent part of their Friday evening battling a controlled burn that got out of hand.

Firefighters were dispatched at 4:45pm to the scene at 3950 Marshall Lane in Chappell Hill.

Once on the scene, Chappell Hill VFD Units discovered the fire was caused by a controlled burn under a tree, and the radiant heat ended up catching the tree top on fire as well.

Chappell Hill VFD personnel used a brush truck to extinguish the flames.

The Brenham Fire Department had been dispatched for mutual aid, but were canceled in route to the scene.

Firefighters remind citizens to be aware of your surroundings when burning, also don’t burn under trees or power lines, and please call your controlled burn into the Washington County E-911 dispatch non-emergency number at 979-277-7373.
