The Blinn College men’s soccer team shackled No. 14 Angelina College in the first half of Tuesday’s Region XIV showdown, but the host Roadrunners broke out for a big second half as they earned an 8-1 victory in Lufkin, Texas.

The Buccaneers are now 8-5-3 overall with a 5-4 region record.

“With such a lopsided result, it’s hard to believe we went into halftime leading. If ever there was a game of two halves, this was it,” Blinn head coach Michael McBride said, “but there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We’re looking for a huge response on Friday.”

Blinn found the scoreboard first in the 31st minute when freshman midfielder Geoff Ojango used an assist from forwards Na’el Shalabi and Devon Arnold to give his team a 1-0 lead.

After the intermission, the Roadrunners evened the score with a tally in the 54th minute before pulling ahead in the 59th.

Angelina out-shot Blinn 20-7.

Splitting time in goal for the Bucs were freshman keepers Connor Vela and Bennett Woodworth. Vela made three saves.

On Friday, Blinn will look to get back into the win column when it hosts No. 16 Coastal Bend College for a Region XIV tilt at 7:30 p.m. at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.
