BLUEBONNET ELECTRIC WARNING MEMBERS OF INCREASED SCAM ATTEMPTS
Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is cautioning members to be alert amid a recent increase in attempted phone scams.
Bluebonnet says the fraudulent activities include scammers posing as representatives of the cooperative over the phone, claiming member accounts are past due, threatening to disconnect them the same day and asking for immediate payment.
According to Bluebonnet, the fraudulent calls are coming from 512-521-3002, and the scammers direct members to call 888-216-3973 to make a payment.
Bluebonnet will never call asking for immediate payment while threatening a same-day disconnect. If a member has not received a reminder in the mail or a courtesy call about their account, and someone claiming to represent the cooperative calls to demand an immediate payment, they are urged to not pay.
If a member receives a suspicious call, Bluebonnet recommends they get as much information as possible about the caller, including their caller ID information, and report it to local law enforcement and Bluebonnet member services at 800-842-7708.
Members can check their account status by calling Bluebonnet member services and following the prompts, going online to https://bluebonnet.coop or using the MyBluebonnet mobile app. Members can get tips to spot scam attempts at https://bluebonnet.coop/scams.
