BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER ADOPTING HIGHER TAX RATE
The Burton City Council will meet Tuesday for a public hearing and vote on a new, increased property tax rate.
The proposed rate of $0.3363 per $100 valuation consists of $0.043823 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.292477 for interest and sinking (I&S). It would be roughly four cents more than the existing rate of $0.297267, which comes with $0.045349 for M&O and $0.251918 for I&S.
Following any comments, councilmembers will take action on adopting the rate.
Other business at the meeting will include potentially allowing Burton Friends and Neighbors to purchase and install metal covering over the seating areas at the ball fields for $44,000, at no cost to the city. There will also be an item to close East Texas Street between North Railroad Street and North Main Street between the hours of 2 and 7 p.m. for “Fun in the Park” on October 4th, hosted by the Burton Beautification Association.
An executive session will be held for legal consultation. Once it concludes, the council will take up an item for an easement agreement for the Knittel Lift Station.
The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
