THE BARNHILL CENTER SPEAKER SERIES TO FOCUS ON WASHINGTON-ON-THE-BRAZOS’ REOPENING

The Barnhill Center is kicking off a new speaker series with a discussion on the revitalization of the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site.

“The Barnhill Center Presents” will host the program on Tuesday, October 7th at 11:30 a.m. at Morriss Hall.

Featured panelists will be State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, historian Michael Moore and Washington-on-the-Brazos Site Manager and Director Jonathan Failor.  Moderating the panel will be Cyndee Smith, past president of the Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Foundation and current member of the board of directors.

Kolkhorst’s work in the Texas Legislature led to over $40 million in funding for the Texas Historical Commission to redevelop the site.  The Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Foundation has raised nearly all of the additional $10.4 million necessary to complete the project.

Moore’s specialties as a historian are in the eras of Texas colonization, revolution and republic.  His role at the site is leading the reconstruction of the Washington townsite outdoor exhibit.  Over his 40-year career in the museum field, he has led the development of the Fort Bend Museum, George Ranch Historical Park and San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site.

Failor has served as the site manager and director at Washington-on-the-Brazos since 2018.  He will provide updated images from the final stages of completion of the site, which is slated for a grand re-opening on Saturday, November 8th.

Individual seats for the program are $50, while premium reserved tables of eight are $500.  Seating is limited.
