After a search led by a subcommittee created by the Burton Bridge Ministry’s Board of Directors, the ministry has named Dr. Cynthia A. Carter-Horn to lead the organization, succeeding outgoing executive director Debbie Schroeder.

Dr. Carter-Horn lives in Burton and has served for over 30 years in higher education, including increasing responsibilities at three Texas A&M System member institutions: Tarleton State University, Texas A&M University-Central Texas, and twice at Prairie View A&M University.  She recently retired from Prairie View A&M as Senior Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer.

While pursuing her college degrees, Dr. Carter-Horn served in an administrative capacity for a nonprofit agency that assisted at-risk youth.  Her time there included working with local, state and federal agencies; fundraising; and grant-writing.

The Burton Bridge Ministry says it is excited about how Dr. Carter-Horn’s leadership, wisdom, professional experience and collaborative strengths will help the organization continue to serve the community.

The Burton Bridge Ministry’s active programs and services include its senior outreach programs, Manna Food Pantry, The Corner Shoppe, transportation, accessibility ramps through the Helping Hands program and the Texas Ramp Build Project, and volunteer opportunities.  The nonprofit’s mission is to build a bridge between racial, cultural, educational, and economic divisions.
