BLINN VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO TRINTY VALLEY FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
The seventh-ranked Blinn College volleyball team dropped a Region 14 road tilt to No. 12 Trinity Valley Community College on Tuesday in Athens, Texas.
The Cardinals – who are first in the region standings – earned a 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 victory over the Buccaneers.
Blinn’s season-high 17-match winning streak came to an end as the Buccaneers fell to 33-2 overall and 9-2 in the region standings.
“We got beat by the better team,” Blinn head coach Gregg Whitis said. “Trinity Valley’s serve and pass game was difficult for us; it was hard for us to receive it. We also got aced – by our standard – a bunch of times, and we were moving the scoreboard for the other team. We’ll tip our hat, go back to work, and get back at it on Thursday.”
Blinn’s offense was led by sophomore hitter Olivia Stringer, who recorded 11 kills. Sophomore hitter Kaliko Schilling added nine kills and freshman hitter Annika Brooks added six.
Sophomore setter Leah Hoss dished out 16 set assists.
At the service line, sophomore middle blocker Jana Cetkovic had two aces.
Cetkovic added two solo blocks at the net, while sophomore hitter Shiloh Jones chipped in one.
On the floor, Hoss had a team-high 13 digs, Schilling and freshman defensive specialist/libero Natalia Silva had eight apiece.
Blinn’s season resumes with a home match against region foe Navarro College at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Kruse Center in Brenham.
