BRAD TEGELER ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR WASHINGTON CO. JUDGE
A Washington County native with experience in state government and with community affairs is throwing his hat into the ring for Washington County Judge.
Brad Tegeler has announced that he is running for county judge in the March Republican primary.
Tegeler has served in leadership roles for several prominent conservative leaders in the Texas Legislature, including as chief of staff and as legislative director. He was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to serve on the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, where he currently chairs the Audit Committee.
While working in the Legislature, he assisted with the passage of several important pieces of legislation like the Ken Legler Act, which requires applicants for unemployment benefits to pass a drug screening test. He also worked to establish the creation of the Veteran Entrepreneur Program through the Texas Veterans Commission, reform the Texas property tax
system, and assist with disaster relief for counties impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
Tegeler currently serves as the general counsel of the Tegeler family of dealerships, where he is part of the management team of businesses that employ over 50 people in the greater Washington County area. He is also involved in the community as vice chair of the Brenham Heritage Museum, vice chair of the Brenham Historic Preservation Board, a member of the Washington County Republican Club, associate member of the Washington County Republican Women, master mason in the Brenham Graham Masonic Lodge #20, and a director of the Texas Lyceum. Additionally, he is an active supporter of the Washington County Fair Youth Auction, Brenham Maifest, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, CASA for Kids South Central Texas, the Brenham VFW and the Brenham American Legion.
Tegeler says as the county continues to grow, it is imperative that its leaders have the expertise to ensure efficient delivery of services while keeping property taxes low. He says, “Washington County doesn’t need another career politician. Washington County deserves a business leader with a proven track record of delivering conservative wins. That is what I will bring as your next Republican County Judge.”
A graduate of Brenham High School, Tegeler earned a Bachelors from St. Edwards University in Austin, a law degree from South Texas College of law, and a Masters of Law from University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom. He is a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
With Tegeler’s announcement, there will be a contested race for Washington County Judge in March. Judge Douglas Cone, who has served in the office of Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace since 1997, announced earlier this month that he would pursue the seat of county judge. Current County Judge John Durrenberger has not announced whether he will seek re-election.
