BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD CONSIDERS FUTURE STEPS FOR STAFFING, EMPLOYEE SUPPORT
Following previous board discussions about creating a form of stipend for teachers and staff members, the Brenham School Board today (Monday) reviewed options for possibly presenting Brenham ISD employees with a bonus to support retention efforts.
Superintendent Clay Gillentine said the district budgeted this year with the hope of bringing some teacher positions back to “right-size” the student/teacher ratio on campuses. Based on what was originally allotted and what has been expended at this point in the school year, he is confident the district can take a portion of that funding for new payroll positions and give it back to existing employees.
Gillentine also reassured that, with the passage of the Voter Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE), the district is in a good position to put money back into its fund balance when it closes out the budget year.
Gillentine said the administration will meet next week with campus principals to go over how many teacher and staff positions to advertise for.
Also at today’s meeting, the board went into an executive session regarding a Level III expulsion appeal hearing. The board moved to uphold the previous decision from the lower level hearing officer and deny all requests for relief not previously granted at that level.
