COUNSIL ARRESTED ON CHARGES INCLUDING CRIMINAL TRESPASS, ASSAULT
A Brenham man faces several charges as the result of a multi-month investigation.
58-year-old Carey Allen Counsil was booked into jail this (Friday) morning on charges of Criminal Trespass of a Habitation/Shelter, False Statement to a Peace Officer/Law Enforcement and Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Corporal Robert McAnally was dispatched to the county jail just after 6:15 a.m. in reference to a subject with active warrants wanting to turn himself in. Counsil was taken into custody and booked without incident.
According to Washington County Attorney Renee Mueller, the county attorney’s office filed the three misdemeanor cases against Counsil on Monday. Counsil had been under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety since October 11, 2025 for multiple charges, including Driving While Intoxicated. Through the investigation, DPS obtained warrants for social media data, tracking data and cell phone data.
Counsil is a business owner, real estate developer and Blinn College professor who served on the Brenham School Board and ran for Texas Agriculture Commissioner. He has also served as chairman and president of Washington County Crime Stoppers.
Mueller said, “The Washington County Attorney’s Office carefully reviews each case that is forwarded to this office prior to making filing determinations. Filing decisions were made in Mr. Counsil’s cases after diligent review of the voluminous records produced as a result of the warrants and careful analysis of the evidence in light of the elements of the offense that need to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”
