BLINN WOMEN’S GOLF WINS JACK MORRIS CLASSIC
Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
The fifth-ranked Blinn College women’s golf team began its spring season exactly how it ended the fall – with a victory.
The Buccaneers combined to shoot 17-over par during the two-day, two-round Jack Brown Memorial Invitational at Lakecliff Country Club in Spicewood, Texas.
The tournament — which began Monday and ended Tuesday — was hosted by NCAA Division II program Texas A&M and featured nine NCAA DII teams.
The Bucs have now won five of the six tournaments they have played dating back to the fall season. Blinn had four wins in five fall competitions.
Amongst the 56 golfers at the Jack Brown Memorial, Blinn placed two golfers inside the top three, including individual medalist and sophomore Daniah Syed (2-under) and freshman runner-up Jacqueline Lawrence (3-over).
Freshman Ava Murcer was 6-over for sixth place and sophomore Abiha Syed took 14th at 10-over.
Blinn’s top-four scores accounted for its team performance.
Sophomore Lillie Webster just missed a top-25 finish at 15-over, good for 26th place.
Also competing for Blinn as individuals were freshmen Arianna Rodriguez (33rd place at 18-over) and Zoe Nobile (51st place at 31-over).
Next up for the Buccaneers is the two-day Islander Classic hosted by NCAA Division I program Texas A&M Corpus Christi beginning Monday, Feb. 16, at the Corpus Christi Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas.
