The Blinn College women’s basketball team was unable to dig itself out of an early hole and ultimately fell to Region 14 foe Panola College 68-59 on Thursday in Carthage, Texas.

The Buccaneers dropped to 14-9 overall and 4-3 in region play.

“We did not play well the middle 25 minutes of the game tonight,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “We turned the ball over and did not defend well, and giving teams 23 and 21 points in the second and third quarters is unacceptable. The good news is the things we aren’t doing well right now can be fixed.”

Blinn trailed just 16-13 after the first period, but the Fillies used a big second quarter to push its advantage to 39-22 by halftime. Panola was ahead 60-42 heading into the fourth quarter.

Offensively, the Bucs were led by sophomore guard Taylor Spencer’s 17 points. Sophomore guards Jasey Campbell and Mariah Houston followed with 12 and 11, respectively.

Blinn gets back to work with a region matchup at Angelina College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Lufkin, Texas.
