The Blinn College cheer team competed at the 2026 NJCAA Competitive Cheerleading Invitational over the weekend and finished second.

The Buccaneers competed in a best-of-three championship series with in-state rival Navarro College, and were bested 2-0.

The Bulldogs claimed the first match (Friday) 97-58 and prevailed 97.5-76.75 in the finale.

Competing for the Bucs were sophomores Katie Clutton, Addison Legenza, Savanna Medellin, and Raegan Yost, as well as freshmen Ava Caise, Sophia Funk, Baylee Hargett, Kylee Harms, Amara Johnson, Jacey Jones, Cambry McCoy, Emma McDonald, Kassandra Melendez, Sarah Russell, Hannah Shoemaker, Josie Teague, Lauren Thompson, and Jaelyn Trent.

“I’m so proud of the girls and the hard work they have put into NJCAA cheer these past two years,” said Blinn assistant coach Amanda Logback, who oversees the Bucs’ cheer squad. “We are excited to have the opportunity as a program to continue to help cheerleading grow at the NJCAA level.”

Both Blinn and Navarro have pioneered junior college cheerleading’s path to NJCAA affiliation and have helped legitimize the sport underneath the organization’s competitive umbrella.

The Bucs and Bulldogs competed in the first NJCAA-sanctioned dual on Oct. 19, 2024, at the Kruse Center on the Blinn campus in Brenham, Texas.

The Bucs went on to win the first NJCAA Competitive Cheerleading Invitational in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Feb. 1, 2025.
