Today, we move to the Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace office, which came open after Judge Douglas Cone stepped down to run for county judge.  The position is sought by Holly Johnson and Judge Travis Semora.

Johnson has served as chief justice clerk in the Precinct 2 J.P. office since 2003 and has completed over two decades of legal and procedural training through the Texas Justice Court Training Center.  She has served on the board of CASA for Kids, is active in the Washington County Fair and other community events, and was named last month as the 2025 Washington County Woman of the Year.

Johnson says she has strived to stay “technology-forward” in the J.P. office and wants to work with local agencies to improve security in their new office location in the courthouse annex, as well as access to mental health resources.  She also believes the county is “very far behind” when it comes to staffing in the J.P. offices and says they need additional sets of hands to properly serve constituents.

Johnson says her training and hands-on experience can provide a seamless transition of leadership in the office, and that she is passionate about continuing her service to the people.

KWHI is asking each candidate questions about the primary responsibilities of the office they are running for, what they believe to be the main issues facing said office and the county as a whole, and their unique qualities.

Early voting begins on Tuesday, February 17th.  Election Day is Tuesday, March 3rd.
