WASHINGTON CO. JUDGE CANDIDATES SQUARE OFF AT FORUM
Funding for public safety agencies, water conservation districts and strategic planning priorities were some of the topics covered on Monday during KWHI’s Candidates Forum for the Washington County Judge’s race.
All three county judge candidates, Douglas Cone, Kirk Hanath and Brad Tegeler, came to Brenham National Bank to answer questions submitted by the audience, KWHI listeners and the news media on various issues facing the county. The three are pursuing the seat held by Judge John Durrenberger, who is not seeking another term in office.
Cone argued that the county’s recently adopted strategic plan should place a greater emphasis on public safety, giving additional resources to the sheriff’s office and volunteer firefighters to perform their duties.
Hanath said the ongoing discussions on whether the county should create its own water conservation district or join an outside water district must greatly involve the constituents in order to guide the most appropriate decision for the county.
Tegeler said the county should pursue all available funding opportunities in order to free up its own dollars to spend on other needed services, and he also said the county must take great care to follow the right plan for the county’s future.
The forum can be viewed on the KWHI Facebook page.
Early voting begins on Tuesday, February 17th. Election Day is Tuesday, March 3rd.
