LADY PANTHERS CLINCH SHARE OF DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP WITH A WIN OVER SOMERVILLE

The Burton Lady Panther Basketball Team clinched a share of the District 26-2A Championship last (Tuesday) night with a 53-24 win over the Somerville Yeguas.

Burton and Mumford finished as Co-District Champions with identical 11-1 records. The Lady Panthers are 29-5 overall.

The game with Somerville started off slowly with Burton leading only 6-3 after the first quarter. The Lady Panthers found the extra gear in the second quarter by outscoring the Lady Yeguas 20-11, which gave them a 26-14 lead at halftime.

Burton put the game away in the second half by going on a 14-2 run in the third quarter to increase their advantage to 40-16.

The Lady Panthers, also won the fourth quarter 13-8.

Val Hernandez led Burton with 19 points, ten rebounds, and five assists. Harper Hodde had nine points, seven steals, three rebounds, and three steals. Aerynn Huntsman added eight points, four rebounds, and four steals.

Burton waits to find out about the playoffs. As soon as we get that information, we will pass it along.
