COUNSIL CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT, PUBLISHING INTIMATE MATERIAL

A Brenham man faces accusations of sexual assault and publishing intimate visual material.

Carey Allen Counsil
(Collin Co. Jail)

59-year-old Carey Allen Counsil turned himself into the Collin County Jail on Tuesday on warrants for Sexual Assault, a second degree felony, and Publish/Threaten to Publish Intimate Visual Material, a state jail felony.  He was released on bond on Wednesday.

According to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Counsil on Monday.  The sheriff’s office said the warrant was “in connection with a sexual assault investigation involving his estranged wife.”  The investigation began in November after a delayed report was made to deputies, and the warrant was obtained after detectives gathered digital evidence and related communications.

The sheriff’s office said the case has been filed with the Collin County District Attorney’s Office and that the investigation is ongoing, so no further information can be released at this time.

Counsil is a business owner, real estate developer and Blinn College professor who served on the Brenham School Board and ran for Texas Agriculture Commissioner.  He has also served as chairman and president of Washington County Crime Stoppers.

Counsil contacted KWHI this (Thursday) morning to claim the charges are “false allegations filed after mediation,” adding, “These are very serious allegations that we are not taking lightly.”  He said he looks forward to seeing a grand jury.

KWHI has not heard from the party who filed the charges.
