Cash Crampton is the winner of the 70th Washington County Spelling Bee held Tuesday night at Brenham High School.

Crampton, a 6th grade student at Brenham Middle School and the son of Hannah and Lucas Crampton, was the top speller out of participants from nine Washington County schools.

The top three finalists were all students from Brenham Middle School.  Crampton and the second-place finisher, Luke Lechler, a 5th grade student, battled for several words after the third-place contestant, Everett Westfield, a 6th grade student, stumbled on the word galleon.  When Lechler misspelled fissures, it was up to Crampton to spell discipline and scurrying correctly to win the spelling bee.

Crampton will now go on to represent Washington County at the Bee Brilliant: HCC Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 28th.

KWHI has been a sponsor of the Washington County Spelling Bee since it began in 1955 and provides cash prizes for the finalists each year.
