LADY PANTHER SOFTBALL WINS TWO AT NAVASOTA TOURNAMENT
After a couple of tough losses on opening day of the Navasota Tournament, the Burton Lady Panther Softball Team bounced back with a pair of wins on Friday.
In the first game, the Lady Panthers defeated the College Station JV Lady Cougars 6-3. College Station got it started with a run in the top of the first inning.
Burton responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Panthers loaded the bases on a walk to Natalie Hodde, a single by Laci Broesche, and a walk to Amaya Williams. Paige Fritsch singled home Hodde to tie the game at 1-1. Haeleah Herrin drew a bases loaded walk to score Broesche and Kelsey Landriault drew a second straight bases loaded walk to bring in Williams, and make it a 3-1 Burton lead.
The Lady Panthers added two more in the bottom of the second. Williams reached on a two-out double, and then Fritsch singled her home. Melanie Wood followed with an RBI triple to score Fritsch and make it a 5-1 game.
It would stay that way until the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Cougars scored twice to cut the lead to 5-3.
Burton added one more insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Williams walked, took second on a passed ball, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Fritsch. That increased the Lady Panther advantage to 6-3.
Laci Broesche went the distance and got the win in the circle.

The Lady Panthers rounded out the day with an 18-1 victory over the Leon Lady Cougars in a game that lasted only three innings.
Burton got it going on offense with four runs in the top of the 1st inning. Natalie Hodde and Laci Broesche reached on back-to-back singles. Fritsch singled home Hodde with the first run of the game. Broesche later scored on a wild pitch. Melanie Wood reached on an error that allowed Fritsch to come home. Abby Dowling walked. Wood advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then she scored on a second wild pitch to make it 4-0.
Leon scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning to cut the Lady Panthers' lead to 4-1.
Burton came back with five runs in the top of the second. Hodde led off the inning with a double. Broesche reached on a throwing error by the shortstop that allowed Hodde to come around and score. Then, Broesche stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Williams and Fritsch both walked. Broesche scored on a wild pitch. Wood doubled home Williams and Fritsch. She later stole third, and scored on another passed ball, which put the Lady Panthers up 9-1.
Burton would then bust the game wide open with a nine-run third inning. Broesche walked and Williams singled. Fritsch came up and smashed a two-run double that scored Broesche and Williams to make it 11-1 Lady Panthers. Later in the inning, and the lead up to 15-1 Burton, Fritsch wrapped up the scoring with a three-run double that scored Hodde, Broesche, and Williams, which made it 18-1.
