LADY PANTHERS END SEASON WITH LOSS TO GOLDTHWAITE

Mya Rodriguez (Burton ISD)

There's an old saying that all good things must come to an end. For the Burton Lady Panther Basketball Team, that end came two games sooner than they wanted.

The Goldthwaite Lady Eagles defeated Burton 42-31 last (Friday) night at Georgetown East View High School.

Goldthwaite outscored the Lady Panthers 11-7 in the first quarter, and 12-7 in the second quarter to take a 23-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Val Hernandez (Burton ISD)

Burton came out in the third quarter, and outscored the Lady Eagles 8-5 to cut the lead to 28-22. Lady Panthers Head Coach Christopher Taplin made a defensive switch moving Lexi Broesche to guard Goldthwaite's leading scorer Rylee Greenway.

Greenway had 14 points in the first half. Going against Broesche in the second half, she managed only one basket.

The Lady Eagles won the fourth quarter 14-9 to seal the victory over Burton. Mya Rodriguez led the Lady Panthers in scoring with nine points, while Val Hernandez added eight points.

Burton finishes the season with a 32-6 record. It was the final basketball game for Aerynn Huntsman, who is the team's only senior.
