EF-0 TORNADO TOUCHES DOWN IN GIDDINGS

The Lee County Office of Emergency Management has confirmed that a tornado touched down earlier today (Thursday).

The tornado was confirmed in a Facebook post.  The post said that a line of strong thunderstorms moved through our area earlier, producing a confirmed tornado that touched down in portions of Lee County.

National Weather Service reports indicate that the tornado had an EF-0 intensity with estimated winds around 60-70 mph along its path.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has been flying drones this (Thursday) afternoon for the initial assessment of any damages in and around Giddings.

Damage has been reported primarily to trees, farm outbuildings, and some structures near Giddings and surrounding rural areas.

No major injuries have been confirmed at this time, but power lines are down in spots and some roads may have debris.

The Sheriff’s Office asks that local residents are to check on elderly folks, families with young children, and anyone who might be isolated out on the ranches.

If you see something that needs immediate attention—flooded roads, livestock out of fences, downed powerlines, or other hazards—call 911 or the Lee County Sheriff's Office right away.
