BURTON BASEBALL DEFEATS MILANO 11-0 FOR EIGHTH WIN IN A ROW
The Burton Panther Baseball Team continued their winning ways last (Tuesday) night with an 11-0 victory over the Milano Eagles. The game lasted just five innings due to the mercy rule.
It was Senior Night at the ballpark, where the outgoing Panther seniors were recognized on the field with their parents. The seniors are Archer Fuller, Matthew Roemer, Ryder Biggs, and manager Austin Bostain.
Tyler Witt pitched a no-hitter and struck out 12 to get the victory.
The game was scoreless until Burton came up to bat in the bottom of the second inning. Eli Jaeger drew a leadoff walk to start the inning. Archer Fuller followed with a double. Matthew Roemer brought them both home with a two-run single to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage. Coy Gurka walked, and Tyler Witt was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tosta drew a walk, which brought home Roemer with the third run, and Braydon Martin added a sacrifice fly to score Gurka, and give Burton a 4-0 lead.
The Panthers would tack on five more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Jaeger got it started off with a double. Roemer was hit by a pitch. Gurka doubled home Jaeger. Witt then hit a sacrifice fly to score Roemer, which increased the lead to 6-0.
Burton added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the mercy rule into effect. Biggs tripled, and then scored when Jaeger reached on an error. Fuller singled and Roemer walked to load the bases. Gurka got hit by a pitch, which brought Jaeger home. Witt would then clear the bases with a three-run triple to make it 11-0 Burton.
With the win, Burton is now 19-3 on the season, and 8-1 in district. The Panthers will be at Milano on Friday at 6:30pm. The Panthers have clinched at least a share of the district championship, and they can clinch the district title outright with a win.
