BURTON SOFTBALL CLINCHES SHARE OF DISTRICT TITLE WITH A WIN OVER MUMFORD
The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team clinched a share of the District 26-2A Championship last (Tuesday) night with a 6-1 victory over the Mumford Lady Mustangs.
The Lady Panthers got the scoring started in the top of the first inning. Lexi Broesche led it off with a double. Natalie Hodde followed up by laying down a sacrifice bunt to move her over to third base. Amaya Williams would then come up, and she smacked a double to bring home Lexi with the first run of the game.
Burton added two runs to their score in the top of the third inning. Lexi led off the inning with a single. After a couple of pop-ups, Paige Fritsch hit a two run-homer, which put the Lady Panthers in front 3-0.
The Mustangs scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Burton lead to 3-1.
Lexi added an RBI single in the that scored Kara Landriault with an insurance run for the Lady Panthers to make it 4-1 in the fifth.
Burton tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win. Hodde doubled, and then Williams unloaded a two-run homer that put the Lady Panthers up 6-1, which would end up being the final.
Lexi Broesche went the distance to get the win. She went seven innings allowing only one unearned run, and struck out 13.
Next up, the Lady Panthers will host Mumford on Friday at 6pm in Burton. If the Lady Panthers get the win, they will be outright district champions. If Mumford wins, they will be co-district champions.
