BLINN SOFTBALL SEASON COMES TO AN END WITH REGION XIV TOURNAMENT LOSS TO SAN JACINTO-SOUTH

The Buccaneers finished their successful year with a 33-19 record

The Blinn College softball team saw its season come to a close with a 7-4 Region 14 Tournament consolation loss to San Jacinto College-South on Friday in Houston.

The Buccaneers concluded the year with a 33-19 record.

“‘Never say die’ and ‘never quit,’ were this team’s mottoes this year, and the players embodied that until the end,” Blinn head coach Rick Church said. “I am proud of the way they fought all season.”

The Bucs got off to a strong start Friday as it defeated Alvin Community College 4-2 in a consolation matchup earlier in the day to advance.

Blinn raced out to a 3-0 lead through the first three innings of play on an RBI double from freshman outfielder Lexis Moss in the first and solo home runs from sophomore infielders Annie Beckendorf and Daniela Lopez in the third. The longballs were the 12th and sixth for Beckendorf and Lopez, respectively

The Dolphins kept things close with two runs in the top of the sixth, but sophomore catcher Cadence Wiese gave the Bucs some breathing room with an RBI single in the home half of the frame.

Sophomore pitcher Brynn Gallamore (17-9) picked up the win after allowing two earned runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings. Sophomore Madisyn Bracknell worked 1 1/3 innings of one-hit ball to earn the save.

Beckendorf led Blinn’s 10-hit attack with a 3-for-3 performance. Freshman outfielder Skylar Flanagan added two hits.

In the nightcap, the Bucs were unable to replicate their success against San Jacinto-South.

After Blinn scored the first run of the game on an RBI single from Moss in the bottom of the first, the Ravens answered with seven runs in the third.

The Bucs fought back with a solo homer from Wiese – her 13th – in the bottom of the third before pushing two more runs across on Moss’ sacrifice fly and a run-scoring error in the seventh.

Blinn finished with nine hits, including two apiece for Flanagan, Wiese, and Beckendorf.

Gallamore again started in the circle and was charged with the loss following two innings of work.

Despite the tough end to its season, Blinn enjoyed a successful campaign that saw it reach the 30-win mark for the second time in three years. The Bucs also finished second in the Region 14 South division and were ranked in the NJCAA Division I Softball poll for 10 consecutive weeks.
