DOWNTOWN BRENHAM COLLECTS OVER 700 POUNDS OF PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY TO SUPPORT STUDENTS

The third installment of the annual “PB&Jam” food drive organized by Main Street Brenham and Brenham Next is being called an overwhelming success.

From April 2nd through May 2nd, local businesses and the community rallied to collect approximately 713 pounds of peanut butter and jam to help ensure local children stay fed and supported during the summer months.  The donations will go directly to students and families through the Brenham Next JAM Summer Camp program.

In a press release, the City of Brenham says the summer break can disrupt the daily structure provided to children during the school year, including reliable meals.  The city says the partnership is “more than just a food drive” and “reflects the heart of the Brenham community and the role local businesses play in supporting local families.”

Kelli Dozier State Farm Insurance sponsored collection boxes throughout downtown for the initiative.  Mescalito drove additional support through a successful “round-up at checkout” campaign.

Another key partner helping feed students this summer is Brenham ISD’s Child Nutrition Department, which provides meals for JAM Summer Camp, the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County, and the district’s official Summer Feeding Program.  Brenham ISD Child Nutrition is offering free meals-to-go this summer for all ages 18 and under, including non-Brenham ISD students, with one pickup providing ten days of meals for each child.
