WASHINGTON CO. VFDs RECEIVE STATE GRANT FUNDING FOR VEHICLES, EQUIPMENT

  

Four Washington County volunteer fire departments are slated to receive a portion of $29.3 million in grant funding, recently awarded through the Texas A&M Forest Service’s Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program.

The fourth funding round of the fiscal year awarded 531 grants to address volunteer fire department requests for personal protective equipment, slip-on units, fire and rescue equipment, water tenders, small brush trucks and training aids.

Washington County fire departments selected for grants are the Prairie Hill – Rocky Hill, Salem, Chappell Hill and Washington VFDs.

The Prairie Hill VFD is being presented a $300,000 grant for the purpose of a water tender.

The Salem VFD expects to receive $265,000 for a large brush truck.  The department will bring a request to county commissioners tomorrow (Tuesday) to assist with securing the grant by providing the required 5 percent local match of $13,250.

The Chappell Hill and Washington VFDs are being awarded $25,000 each.  The Chappell Hill department’s grant is for fire and rescue equipment, while the Washington department’s grant is for personal protective equipment.

The next round of grant funding is tentatively scheduled for August.
