The Washington County 11-Year-Old Baseball Team captured the District 13 Championship with a 10-0, four-inning, run-rule victory over Sealy last (Thursday) night in Burton.

Washington County's path was not an easy one. They lost to Sealy 8-2 on Monday night, which put their backs against the wall. They needed three wins to claim the championship, including beating Sealy twice, and that is exactly what they did.

Washington County beat Bellville on Tuesday night 2-0, and then followed with back-to-back wins over Sealy 4-1 on Wednesday and 10-0 on Thursday.

In the top of the first inning, Luke Lechler drew a one-out walk, and he later scored the first run of the game when Aiden Mathis hit into a fielder's choice.

The offense for Washington County exploded in the third inning when they put seven runs on the board. Walker Ebert hit a sacrifice fly and Bowen Riley had an RBI single. They also took advantage of some Sealy errors to increase the lead to 8-0.

In the fourth inning, Lechler walked, and then Ebert hit a two-run homer that stayed just inside the left field foul pole to put the mercy rule into effect. In the 11-year-olds, since they play a regulation six innings, the mercy rule is ten runs after four innings.

Mason Ehlert pitched four strong innings for Washington County to get the win. He allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out four. Ehlert even got to field the last ball put in play and run to first base for the final out.

Washington County now moves on to the Section 1 Tournament on Saturday, June 27 in Tyler. Their first game is scheduled for 8pm.
