The Burton City Council has called a special meeting for Tuesday, June 30, to finally wrap up the election.

Among the items on the agenda is the presentation of a Certificate of Election to Position Five Council Member Macey Tidwell.

Tidwell is also scheduled to be administered the oath of office.

Back on May 2nd, Tidwell and challenger Berneake Gantt finished in a tie with 65 votes each.

A runoff was held on Saturday, June 13, which saw Tidwell win by just four votes 76-72.

Tidwell missed the chance to be sworn in along with new council member Sheila Ripple at this past Tuesday’s meeting due to a previously planned vacation.

Also on the agenda is an item to approve Mayor Karen Buck, and the five council members as authorized signers on all the bank accounts for the City of Burton held at Citizen’s State Bank, and remove Tommie Gilmon, who is no longer on the council.

Council members will then be going into a workshop session for new council orientation.

The Burton City Council meets Tuesday, June 30, at 5:30pm at the Burton City Hall.
