CUBETTE VOLLEYBALL READY FOR OPENER AFTER SWEEPING ELGIN AND GIDDINGS

Fans got their first look at the Brenham Cubette Volleyball Team under new head coach Cydney Marlow on Monday afternoon, and they were treated to a pair of victories in the final scrimmages before the start of the regular season on Thursday.

The Cubettes hosted the Elgin Lady Wildcats and the Giddings Lady Buffaloes at the Brenham High School Gym. Instead of the normal best three out of five, the scrimmages went to a best two out of three.

Brenham swept Elgin in the first match 25-15 and 25-17, and then, they went on to sweep Giddings as well, 25-15 and 25-18.

The Cubettes now get ready for their season opener this Thursday as part of the 19th Annual Warrior Showcase at Round Rock West Wood High School.

Brenham is one of 32 teams taking part in the tournament that is made up of mostly 5A and 6A teams. Because of the large number of teams participating, the tournament will have matches played at Round Rock West Wood, Round Rock Stony Point, and Cedar Ridge High Schools.

Each team will go through Round One of Pool Play on Thursday, and Round Two of Pool Play on Friday. Then, on Saturday, they will be grouped into brackets based on their win-loss records from the previous two days.

The teams with the best records will be in the Gold Bracket, followed by the Silver Bracket, the Bronze Bracket, and the Copper Bracket for the teams with the worst records.

On Thursday, the Cubettes will open the first day of pool play against the Texas Lions Academy out of Austin at 10am, that will be followed by Leander Glenn at 12 noon, and then Northwest High School out of Justin, Texas at 2pm. Their matches will be played at Round Rock Stony Point High School.
