‘B’ FOR BRENHAM ISD, ‘A’ FOR BURTON ISD IN NEW STATE ACCOUNTABILITY GRADES

  

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released new accountability ratings for school districts across the state.

The 2026 ratings are an indicator of performance for districts and campuses, based off of data from the 2025-26 school year.

In Washington County, Brenham ISD’s accountability rating was an 80, or a B.  Burton ISD earned a 90, or an A. 

Looking further at Brenham ISD’s ratings, the district received a 76 (C) in Student Achievement, an 82 (B) in School Progress, and a 74 (C) in Closing the Gaps.  For individual campuses, the Early Childhood Learning Center, Brenham Elementary School, Brenham Middle School and Brenham High School earned a B.  Alton Elementary School and Brenham Junior High School were graded at a C.  Krause Elementary School received a D.

Burton ISD’s category ratings were 93 (A) for Student Achievement, 88 (B) for School Progress, and 83 (B) for Closing the Gaps.  Burton High School received an A, while Burton Elementary School was graded at a B. 

In a statement shared on social media, Brenham ISD said it is proud of its progress and grateful for everyone who made it possible.  It said, “These results reflect the hard work of our students, educators, staff, families, and community. They also represent something even more important—momentum.  We're seeing continued growth, stronger student outcomes, and recognition for the work happening across Brenham ISD.”

Burton ISD Superintendent Vikki Curry said the district is extremely proud of this accomplishment and the hard work of its students, teachers, staff, administrators and families, adding that the rating “reflects the collective commitment of our entire district to student achievement, continuous improvement, and excellence.”  She said, “While we recognize this achievement, we also understand that accountability ratings are one measure of our work. We will continue to focus on student growth, instructional excellence, and ensuring that every Burton ISD student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
