GRIMES CO. WOMAN ARRESTED FOR EMBEZZLEMENT
The Grimes County Grand Jury has indicted a real estate broker accused of stealing money from the Bedias Cemetery Association.
Janet Lurline Green is accused of taking the money between 2012 and 2013 from the nonprofit organization. The indictment did not specify how much money was taken. The charge is for Theft Between $2,500 and $30,000, a 3rd degree felony.
Green is a real estate broker at Green & Associates Real Estate in Bedias.
Steve Woodall, President of the Bedias Cemetery Association, told KBTX the organization suspected "mischievous activity in cemetery funds" last year, and notified the Grimes County Sheriff's Office.
Woodall said Green was Treasurer at the time of the alleged theft, but declined to offer any other details due to the ongoing investigation.
Green is the widow of former Grimes County Precinct 1 Commissioner Miles "J.R." Green Jr. of Bedias. He died in 2015 after a battle with cancer.
