Testimony continues in the capital murder trial of Michael Dixon.

A large crowd gathered to watch Tuesday’s proceedings, as Dixon’s trial began Tuesday morning at the Washington County Courthouse.

Dixon, along with three other suspects, is being charged with the murder of Blinn College student Trey Kurtz.

One of the suspects, J.B. Wright III, testified on Tuesday.  He spoke about the events and aftermath of October 30, 2014, as well as his dealings with Brenham police.

In his testimony, Wright admitted to lying to Brenham police when they initially came to him for questioning shortly after Kurtz’s death, but he said he went to police about a year later and provided more, albeit incomplete, information.  He said he failed to give authorities his true phone number these two times he was questioned.

Washington County District Attorney Julie Renken says Wright III’s case is currently pending, but at this time she does not anticipate the need to try Wright III.

Several other witnesses came forward on Tuesday, including friends and roommates of Kurtz, and citizens and city employees that heard a gunshot in the area.

Renken expects Brenham Police Officer Hunter Andras—the first officer on scene—to testify today (Wednesday), as well as the 911 caller that discovered the body of Kurtz.  She also expects the girlfriend to Dixon at the time of the murder to come forward, in addition to Medical Examiner Dr. Vickie Willoughby and Investigators Todd Ashorn, John Snowden and Joe Meerkley.

According to Renken, Deperrion Lott’s trial is set for October 15th, while the trial for Jordan Alexander Graves is being considered for March 2019.
