CALDWELL MAN FOUND GUILTY OF FIRING GUN AT DPS TROOPER

Sentencing is Thursday in Brazos County, for a Caldwell man, found guilty Wednesday of firing a gun at a DPS trooper.

34-year old Charles Wayne Nelson was found guilty of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant, after reportedly firing a gun at the trooper during a 2017 traffic stop in College Station.

According to authorities, Nelson fired the gun from the passenger side of the vehicle after it was stopped along Highway 6.  The trooper was injured by shattered glass.

Nelson then reportedly fled the scene in the vehicle, which he eventually crashed.  He was arrested a short time later, with the assistance of a DPS helicopter.
