WASHINGTON CO. JAIL PASSES LATEST RANDOM STATE INSPECTION
SUCCESSFUL INSPECTION MARKS EIGHT IN A ROW
The Washington County Jail has passed its eighth straight random state inspection.
According to Sheriff Otto Hanak, a random jail inspection was performed last Friday by Texas Jail Commission Inspector Jennifer Shumake. At the end of the day-long inspection, Shumake certified the jail as passing and within compliance of state law. The jail has passed inspection each year since 2013, when Sheriff Hanak took office.
The inspection consisted of the analysis of numerous topics such as jail policy and procedures, paperwork efficiency, emergency operations, jailer certifications, medical and dental services, inmate interviews, inmate grievance policies, food services, cleanliness, sanitation procedures, staff safety and security, and religious practices.
Sheriff Hanak said the jail has passed these annual inspections due to the leadership of jail supervisors, the dedication of staff members, the attention to detail of maintenance workers, and the daily activities of the entire medical department. He said these groups work together as a team, which allows the jail to function “properly, efficiently, and professionally year after year”. He noted that the jail structure is approaching 30 years old, adding it is the hope of the Sheriff’s Office that the facility will last well into the future.
As with all 254 Texas county Sheriffs, jail operations are required by state law, and all jails must meet stringent rules and regulations set by state law and overseen by the Texas Jail Commission.
Sheriff Hanak commended the entire staff working in the Washington County Jail, along with everyone who has contributed to the successful operation of the jail over the past eight years.
