At around 1:45 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted Brazoria County law enforcement officials, Texas Highway Patrol, the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, the Hempstead Police Department, and DPS Aircraft Division with terminating the vehicle pursuit.
Officials said a 2017 red Chevrolet Camaro was being pursued by Brazoria County deputies after they saw the vehicle driving erratically. During the pursuit, the Camaro was said to have reached speeds of over 150 mph.
A DPS helicopter, piloted by Captain Brian Barina and assisted on board by Tactical Flight Officers Justin Lopez and Garrett Sellars, was able to keep up and maintain visual contact with the fleeing vehicle from the Pearland area. Patrol cars could not do so due to the excessive speeds and dangers to the motoring public.

As the vehicle entered the Chappell Hill area, and with the roadway free of other drivers, Washington County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Sergeant Mark Morales deployed spike strips. The vehicle struck the strips and stopped near the intersection of Highway 290 East and FM 2447.
The driver, later identified as 22-year-old Colby Wayne Taylor, was arrested without any further incident and taken into custody by Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputies. He was charged with Evading Arrest, but was later released from custody after posting $15,000 bond.
