2020 WASHINGTON CO. FAIR JUNIOR LIVESTOCK AUCTION RESULTS
Thousands of dollars went toward the livestock projects of the youth of Washington County Friday at the 152nd Washington County Fair’s Junior Livestock Auction.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the auction was held both in person and virtually at Silver Wings Ballroom. Participants could watch the sale and place bids on the 260 lots at the auction either at the ballroom or through the Cattle in Motion website.
Unofficial totals for this year’s sale hit $729,400. The record for sales was set in 2019 at $814,450.
This year’s Grand and Reserve Champions altogether sold for $76,000. Grand Champions sold for $44,750, while Reserve Champions sold for $31,250. Last year’s Grand and Reserve Champions together sold for $107,000, with Grand Champions selling for $65,250 and Reserve Champions bringing in $41,750. Last year’s champions sold for $31,000 more than this year’s champions.
One individual record fell for Grand Champion Lambs, which were shown by Kendal Gurka. The lambs sold for $7,500 to a long list of buyers: David and Wanda Hermann, Metal and More, Thielemann Construction, Pooltex American, Hermann Alarms, David Hermann Electric, and Stegent-Thielemann Plumbing.
The Grand Champion Steer of Ali Tiemann sold for $10,000 to Washington County Tractor and Phillips Veterinary Hospital. Harper Hodde’s Grand Champion Barrow sold to Brenham Dodge for $6,500.
The Grand Champion Broilers of Mallory Winkelmann were purchased by Fischer Tile and Floor Covering for $5,500. Wyatt Gardner’s Grand Champion Goats went to J&J Packing for $4,000, as did Emily Redman’s Grand Champion Carcass Hogs. Dane Kruse’s Grand Champion Rabbits sold for $3,750 to J&J Packing. The Grand Champion Turkey of John Rodriquez sold to Brenham Produce for $3,500.
Moving into Reserve Champions, the steer of McKenzie Tiemann sold for $7,000 to Citizens State Bank and Phillips Veterinary Hospital. The Reserve Champion Barrow of Weston Hinze sold for $5,000 to several buyers: Burton Short Stop, Somerville Farm and Ranch, Phillips Veterinary Hospital, J&J Packing, Brenham Veterinary Hospital, Washington County Fair Supporters, Appel Ford, and Carmine Feed and Fertilizer.
The Reserve Champion Broilers of Bryson Biggs sold for $4,000 to Phillips Veterinary Hospital. Eli Saunders’ Reserve Champion Goats sold to Germania Insurance for $3,500. Kaylen Kruse’s Reserve Champion Rabbits sold to J&J Packing for $3,250. The Reserve Champion Turkey of Meg Rodriquez sold to KTEX/KWHI for $3,000. Both the Reserve Champion Lambs of Tanna Thiel and Reserve Champion Carcass Hogs of Colin Schomburg sold for $2,750 to Brannon Industrial Group.
The fair rounds out today (Saturday) with the youth country creations auction at 10 a.m., commercial steer awards and sale at noon, colt sale at 1 p.m., and commercial heifer awards and sale at 2 p.m. Those auctions will also take place at Silver Wings Ballroom.
